Tamil Communities

The Tamil Communities comprises of the tamil speaking people residing in various localities of wadala and antophill. Approximately 40 to 45 percent of the parishioners belong to the Tamil Community.

The localities include:
Madonna Colony
Fatima Kovil
Vijay Nagar
Rajeev Gandhi Nagar
Himmat Nagar
Indra Nagar
Anandwadi
Gate No.4

Though they come from various parts of Tamil Nadu, they stay in unity and have still kept the Tamil Culture alive. Most of the activities conducted by them are in Tamil. Listed below are the activities conducted by them.

Every locality has a small chapel. The people get together in their respective chapels for evening rosary and prayer. They carry out novenas of their Patron saint and on the feast day they have a huge procession. The Tamil Community also celebrates the Feast of Our Lady of Velankani in the month of September. They have a great devotion to the Blessed Sacrament. They have full night Vigil on the last Saturday of every month.

In every chapel, evening study class is conducted to cater to the needs of the less deprived children who cannot afford to go for tuitions. Special attention is given to the weaker students. This helps the children to utilize their time in a fruitful manner.

Thanks to all the priests of our parish, especially Fr. Mathew without whom nothing would have been possible.

The basic unit of the Legion is the Praesidium. When two or more Praesidia are established in a certain area, a higher body, called a Curia, is formed. The prayers that the Legionaries, both active and auxiliary, must say every day are to be found on the official prayer card of the Legion, called the Tessera. Each of the Praesidium meet once in a week at the Chapels in their specific localities. The Curia meets on the 2nd Sunday of every month at 3.30 p.m at St. Anthony's Chapel, Wadala. There are 3 junior Praesidia and 7 senior Praesidia. There are around 160 active members in these Praesidia.
